Birthday week, fireworks & a little Key West history 🎆🌴
|
Hey Reader, It's birthday week around here! 🎉 Yep... I'm a Fourth of July baby, but I'm actually heading south later this week to spend a few days with family. One of the things I love most? I have the awesome privilege of sharing my birthday with my daughter-in-law, so we always have an extra reason to celebrate. 🎂🥳 I'm not exactly sure what all the plans are yet, but I do know they'll include family, fun, good food, birthday cake (hopefully lots of it 🍰), and fireworks. Sounds like a pretty perfect way to celebrate another trip around the sun. What about you? Do you have plans for the Fourth? Maybe you're traveling, hosting a cookout, heading to the beach... or maybe your perfect celebration is staying home and watching the fireworks on TV. Honestly, that's a perfectly good plan too. As a matter of fact, that's exactly how my parents loved spending the Fourth. We'd gather around, watch the fireworks together, and just enjoy being together. Sometimes the simplest traditions become the best memories. ❤️ I'd love to hear what you're up to, so hit reply and let me know! 🎥 A Few Fun VideosI didn't get a full podcast out this week, but I did have some fun creating a few short reels over on YouTube. 👉 🎬 Come see what I've been up to over on YouTube! And while you're there... if you haven't subscribed yet, I'd love to have you join me. That way you'll never miss a live, a walking tour, or one of my random Key West adventures. 🧳 What Should You Pack for Key West? This is one of those questions I get all the time. "What do I pack?" So I went back and completely updated my guide on what to wear in Key West (and really, any warm-weather destination). Because while flip-flops are almost always the right answer... there are a few other things you'll be glad you tossed in your suitcase. 👉 🩴 Check out the updated packing guide here 🥃 A Little Birthday Nostalgia...Since it's my birthday week, I found myself thinking about some of the drinks that were popular "back in the day." That somehow led me down a rabbit hole... And before I knew it, I had updated my recipe for a B-52 Shot. Remember those? If you're celebrating this week too, or just feeling a little nostalgic... 👉 🍸 Here's the recipe! 🧠 Trivia Time!Last week's question was: 🚂 How many years did it take to build the Over-Sea Railway? The answer was 7 years. It's honestly one of the most incredible engineering stories in American history. Beginning in 1905, Henry Flagler's crews built more than 100 miles of railroad stretching from mainland Florida all the way to Key West. They worked across open water, remote islands, and challenging conditions, using the equipment available more than a century ago. When the final section opened in 1912, people called it the "Eighth Wonder of the World," and it's easy to see why. The next time you're driving across the Overseas Highway and looking out over all that beautiful blue water, imagine building a railroad across it. Pretty amazing, isn't it? ❓ This Week's Trivia QuestionLet's see how you do with this one... Who is Duval Street named after? Hit reply with your answer to get entered into this month's Fun in Key West drawing! 🎁 That's it for this week! I'm off to celebrate another trip around the sun with the people I love most. Wishing you and your family a safe, happy, and fun-filled Fourth of July! Talk soon, ☀️🐓
