I made something for you! π΄π¨ (And I need your opinion!)

Hey Reader, Well, my brain is officially FULL. π I've spent the past several days learning SO much at this conference, and I have to tell you, one of my favorite parts isn't just what I'm learning. It's the people. There's something really wonderful about being surrounded by people who are excited about what they're doing, willing to share what they've learned, and genuinely want to see each other succeed. I've had some amazing conversations, met people doing really interesting things, and even started collaborating on a few ideas. You know how sometimes you leave a conversation and immediately start thinking about all the possibilities? That's been me pretty much nonstop. I have pages of notes, new ideas, and approximately 100 things I want to try with Fun in Key West. π And what I love most is that so much of what I'm learning comes back to the same thing... How can I make Fun in Key West even more helpful, interesting, and fun for YOU? Because at the end of the day, I love telling the stories of Key West and the Florida Keys, sharing the history, finding those little places you might otherwise miss, and helping you feel connected to the islands. And speaking of trying something new... π¨ I Made Something for You!Okay, I'm pretty excited about this one! One of the questions I hear all the time is... "Where should I stay in Key West?" And that's a tough question to answer! Because the perfect place for one person might be completely wrong for someone else. Some people want to be right in the middle of everything on Duval Street. Others want a quiet little place where they can sit by the pool with a book. Some want a resort with all the amenities. And, of course, there's that little thing called a budget. π So this weekend, I built something to help! π΄ Find Your Perfect Key West Stay! It's a quick, six-question quiz that asks about the kind of trip you're planning, what matters most to you, and what you want to spend. Then it helps narrow down some places to stay that might be a good fit. No more staring at 47 hotel tabs wondering which one to book. π And here's where I need your help... This is brand-new, and you're among the first people I'm sharing it with! I'd LOVE for you to try it out. π π¨π΄ Take the 6-Question Key West Stay Quiz!β Does it make sense? Are the questions helpful? Do the suggestions feel like places you'd actually consider? Is there something I should add or change? Hit reply and tell me what you think! And stay tuned, because this is just the beginning. I have more ideas for helping you plan your next Key West adventure. But first, I want to make sure this one is actually useful. π° We're Talking Treasure This Thursday!I didn't get much time to update blog posts or host our live show while I've been at the conference. But don't worry. We're getting back to our regularly scheduled island fun! And this week's conversation is going to be a good one. π Thursday, October 22 at 8 PM Eastern I'll be chatting with Jedwin Smith, author of our October Book Club pick, Fatal Treasure. And we're talking TREASURE! Mel Fisher, the search for the Atocha, the people behind the hunt, and what it takes to keep searching when the treasure you're looking for seems impossible to find. I'm really looking forward to this conversation. And even if you haven't read the book, come join us! There's plenty of fascinating Key West history to explore. π π±π΄ Join us LIVE on Facebookβ π πΊπ° Watch LIVE on YouTubeβ Bring your questions and come hang out with us! π§ Last Week's TriviaLast week I asked: π§ What product did Key West begin producing in 1830 that was used for food preservation? The answer was... SALT! π§π΄ Yep! Long before Key West became famous for sunsets, key lime pie, and frozen cocktails, the island was in the salt business. And here's what I find so interesting about that... Back in the 1830s, there were no refrigerators or freezers to keep food fresh. Salt was essential for preserving fish and meat, especially when food needed to be stored or transported over long distances. And Key West had the perfect ingredients for making it. Sunshine. Warm temperatures. Shallow ponds filled with seawater. As the water evaporated, salt was left behind to be harvested. Sounds pretty simple, right? Well, imagine doing that on a large scale! The salt ponds eventually covered a significant portion of the island, and salt production became an important part of Key West's early economy. But there was one BIG problem... Mother Nature. Hurricanes and heavy rains could flood the ponds and ruin months of work. And eventually, the salt industry faded away. Here's another fun fact... Much of the area around today's Key West International Airport was once part of those old salt ponds! βοΈπ§ So the next time you're flying into Key West, think about that. You're arriving near an area where people once harvested salt instead of welcoming planes full of vacationers. Pretty amazing how much an island can change, isn't it? β This Week's TriviaSince we're talking treasure with Jedwin Smith this Thursday, let's stick with that theme! Before Mel Fisher became one of the most famous treasure hunters in the world, he was involved in something completely different. So here's your question... π° What did Mel Fisher raise before becoming a treasure hunter? Think you know? Hit reply with your answer and you'll get another entry into this month's Fun in Key West Swag Box drawing! ππ΄ And remember, every correct answer gives you another chance to win! π΄ One More Thing...As I sit here with all these notes, ideas, and plans, I've been thinking about what I want Fun in Key West to become. And I'd really love your thoughts. What would you like MORE of? More history? More restaurant recommendations? More help planning your trips? More hidden gems? More stories about the people who make Key West such an interesting place? And just as important... What would you like LESS of? Seriously, you can tell me! π I have plenty of ideas of my own, but this little community isn't just about what I want to create. It's about what you enjoy, what helps you, and what makes you feel a little more connected to Key West, whether you're planning your first visit or your fiftieth. So hit reply and let me know. And thank you for being here, for reading along, for sharing your stories, and for letting me keep experimenting with new ways to bring a little more Key West into your world. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have about 100 pages of conference notes to sort through... And apparently I've already started working on the next idea. π Talk soon! βοΈπ Michele Chief Rooster Wrangler | Island Story Collector | Currently turning conference notes into Key West adventures π΄π‘
