Hey Reader, It was a BUSY week around here. But it was one of those really satisfying weeks where you finally stop, look around, and think... "Wow. I actually got a lot done!" Now, some of you may not consider this a major accomplishment, but I cleaned and organized my kitchen cabinets AND bought new storage containers for all of my baking stuff. In my house? That's big. π Of course, once everything was beautifully organized, I promptly made lemon bars AND English muffins. Because apparently the logical way to celebrate an organized baking cabinet is to immediately start baking. And here's the fun part... The story starts LONG before Mel Fisher and his treasure ever arrived. This building has ties to Key West's naval history, steamships, coal storage, and a waterfront that looked very different from the one we know today. It's one of those buildings thousands of people walk past every year without realizing just how much history is sitting right there. I asked where Jimmy got his start when he first arrived on the island. The answer I was looking for was... πΊπ΄ The Chart Room! But the part of this story I really love involves Tom Corcoran. When Jimmy arrived in Key West with Jerry Jeff Walker in 1971, they made their way to the Chart Room at the Pier House. Tom Corcoran was behind the bar and offered the new guy his first drink on the house. Jimmy chose a Heineken. πΊ Imagine being there that day. Just another guy walks into a little Key West bar, gets handed a free beer... And he turns out to be Jimmy Buffett. Not a bad first drink in Key West. ππ΄ β This Week's Trivia QuestionOkay, history lovers...
