The answer was Dade County Pine 🌲 This stuff was legendary. It was incredibly strong, naturally resistant to rot, and even termites weren't particularly interested in chewing on it. Because of those qualities, it became one of the primary building materials used in many of Key West's historic homes. Unfortunately, the forests that produced true Dade County Pine were largely wiped out over time, making it extremely rare today.
