My Favorite Sunset Spots on the Island
Mallory Square — Because the Sunset Celebration Is Iconic
If Key West had a “main stage” for sunsets, this would be it. Every evening people gather for the legendary Sunset Celebration — street performers, live music, local artisans, conch fritters, and cocktails all while the sky turns into a pastel masterpiece.
Pro tip: get there ~90 minutes before sunset so you can snag a front‑row “seat” on the seawall.
Sunset Pier (and nearby Harbor Walk/Seaport docks) — For Breezy Bar‑by‑the‑Water Vibes
Just off Mallory, this spot gives you the sunset with a side of easygoing drinks, music, and fewer elbows. It’s perfect if you want a little less hustle but still want that golden glow over the water.
Fort Zachary Taylor State Park Beach (Sunset Point) — Sand, Sea & Serenity
For a quieter, more sunset‑and‑sand kind of vibe, Fort Zach’s beach is hard to beat. Bring a blanket (and maybe a cooler), and settle in for one of the most peaceful, picturesque views on the island. Great for unwinding after a day of exploring.
Sunset Cruise (on a boat or schooner) — Sea + Sky + Sips = Magic
If you really want to feel like you’re chasing paradise, hop on a sunset cruise. There’s something about watching the horizon melt into the water from the deck of a boat — extra points if you’ve got a cocktail in hand and the breeze in your hair.
My Two Cents (Because I’ve Watched Enough of These)
- Do Mallory at least once. It’s noisy, it’s chaotic — and it’s pure Key West magic.
- Want chill vibes? Go Fort Zach or a sunset cruise. Less crowd, more calm.
- Best combo: early dinner → stroll or cruise → sunset → drinks at a waterfront bar. ☀️🍹
